Vanilla-Jungle-Lodge

Our finca is located in the north of Costa Rica, in the canton of Sarapiqui, in the Caribbean outback, near the border with Nicaragua. The area is part of the biological corridor San Juan - La Selva. The immediate area has a large variety of habitats such as lagoons, streams, wetlands, pastures, bushland, secondary and primary forest, allowing for very high biodiversity.

About 420 species of birds, more than 1000 species of butterflies, 25 species of lizards, 44 frogs and toads, 56 species of snakes and 114 mammals (many of them bats) could be registered here.

In our finca you will find howler monkeys, poison dart frogs, green iguanas, caimans, tropical giant ants, tapirs, agoutis, hummingbirds, toucans and parrots.

The vanilla plantation of the property is maintained like a park. Below a small waterfall invites a natural swimming pool between rocks all year long for swimming. The property is accessible by vehicle throughout the year (also during the rainy season), is connected to the public electricity grid and has telephone and internet access.

A small extra of the Vanilla Jungle Lodge is a pond system fed by the small jungle river "Quebrada Grande". The Tilapia fish grown here are sold at the local market. Also this installation is for our guests a nice place to stay.

Vanilla Jungle Lodge is located in the province of Heredia / Canton Sarapiqui (near La Virgen). In about 5 minutes you reach the small town "California Tico". From here there are three daily buses to San Jose`. To the airport or to the capital you need by car about 2.5 hours. From the neighboring town of Puerto Viejo boats start, which take you on the Rio Sarapiqui and the Rio San Juan to the Caribbean beaches of Tortuguero. Various organizers offer here also rafting or mountain bike tours. Nearby banana, pineapple and pepper plantations can be visited and weekly auctions show you how to trade cattle in Costa Rica. The Sarapiqui region offers a truly authentic travel experience.
